The USHA 2004 Spring Conference is presented by the Utah Speech-Language-Hearing Association, a non-profit professional organization serving the continuing education needs of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, speech and hearing scientists, and educators.

  2. Describe the current serveillance activities for ASD being conducted in Utah.

Autism: False Claims and True Hope for Progress

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the evidence for genetic factors conributing to the etiology of autism.
  2. Recognize the hetergeneity of clinical symptoms, etiology and outcome of Autism.
  3. Integrate the role of speech and language specialists within a multidisciplinary approach to Autism.

SCERTS: Practical Steps in Developing an Early Intervention Model for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

  1. Describe the characteristics of effective intervention programs for children with ASD.
  2. Recognize and associate intervention program characteristics with the SCERTS model.
  3. Design, develop, and implement components for an effective intervention program.
  4. Specify the practical steps in developing an effective intervention program.
